Joseph Ruiz, PhD
Dr. Joseph Ruiz, President, has over 25 years experience as an investigator in academia and industry in embryonic and adult stem cell biology, genome engineering, hepatic cell biology, cell transplantation, and histotechnology. He frequently serves as a reviewer and chair for NIH Small Business Scientific Review Groups. Dr. Ruiz’s background of holding positions in both academia and the biotech industry has given him a unique perspective on the importance of developing a comprehensive research plan while also driving research toward clinical or commercial applications. He obtained his PhD at UC San Diego and completed post-doctoral work at Columbia and Harvard Universities. Dr. Ruiz has held faculty positions at the Indiana School of Medicine and at the Wistar Institute, and has directed scientific development at several biotech startup companies.
Zefeng Wang, PhD
Dr. Zefeng Wang, co-founder and CSO, received his Ph.D. degree from Johns Hopkins Medical School serves 9 months per year as Director CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology (Shanghai CHINA) and 3 months per year as CSO for Enzerna. Dr. Wang has made significant contribution to the field of RNA biology by developing a series of new methods to study RNA metabolism, including splicing and degradation, and his work has been recognized by several research awards. He his patented technology for “RNA restriction enzymes” forms the basis of Enzerna’s core technology.
Don Rose, PhD
Dr. Don Rose, Director, Carolina KickStart, NC TraCS Institute, UNC-Chapel Hill serves on the Executive Board of Enzerna. Dr. Rose’s broad perspective with life science research, product development, seedstage investing, business development, and sales and marketing will be valuable as Enzerna commercializes its technology.
